Xiaomi is now upgrading their Redmi 7 series to 8, a few weeks back Xiaomi launched Redmi 8a successor of Redmi 7a, which is an entry-level smartphone and earlier today Redmi 8 was launched at Rs.7,999 but it seems like it is not a real successor to Redmi 7 before we elaborate the reason let’s see what it has to offer
Specification of Redmi 8
- Display: 6.22-inch HD Plus Dot Notch Screen
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 439
- Camera: 12MP Sony IMX 363 Sensor + 2MP with 8MP Selfie Shooter
- Battery: 5000 mAh with 18W Fast Charging
- Ram & Storage: 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB

Build and Design
Starting with the design Redmi 8 brings an Aura Mirror design language which we forward to see on its much-anticipated Redmi Note 8 lineup that is coming in the next week in India. The phone offers a Poly-carbonate build. Redmi 8 will come in 3 colors, namely Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, and Onyx Black.
Coming to the cameras, the Redmi 8 houses dual AI camera a 12MP f/1.8 primary camera with a huge 1.4-micron pixel size and a 2MP depth sensor on the back. Upon the front, the phone feature an 8MP AI selfie shooter.
This Phone brings an impressive specs featuring 5000mAh battery, 18 Watt fast charging, Type C Port, Gorilla Glass 5 Protection, P2i Splash Proof coating and a decent primary camera and it also comes with a dedicated SIM slot, the major setback is the dated chipset Snapdragon 439 and also the 18W fast charger is not available in the box, you have to purchase it separately.
Is it a real Upgrade or a Downgrade?
Now let’s address the elephant in the room the Snapdragon 439, I don’t know why but it seems to be a downgrade to me Redmi 8’s predecessor came with Snapdragon 632 Processor which was a decent processor and much more powerful than the current one but this time Xiaomi choose the path for downgrade every other thing on this phone seems to be decent including type C port and fast charging support.
Price and Availability
Redmi 8 will go on sale at Rs 7,999 for the 3GB+32GB which is the variant and Rs. 8,999 for the higher 4GB+64GB variant. However, the first five million users can snatch the higher variant at Rs. 7,999 as Xiaomi is celebrating being the number 1 smartphone brand in India for the past 2 Years. It will even upgrade all the 3GB variant order to 4GB ones for free.
